Albany, NY — April 21, 2026 — KCS, a proud member of the REACH Coalition, joined student advocates, New York State Senators, and Assembly Members in Albany to champion the passage of the AANHPI Curriculum Bill (S3334/A4638) — a landmark piece of legislation that would mandate the inclusion of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history in New York State public school curricula.
About REACH Coalition
REACH — Representing and Empowering AANHPI Community History — is New York State's first statewide coalition dedicated to integrating the histories and lived experiences of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities into existing curricula used across New York State public schools. The coalition brings together a powerful alliance of community organizations, educators, students, and community members committed to achieving equitable and inclusive education for all.
About the Legislation
If enacted, the AANHPI Curriculum Bill (S3334/A4638) would require the State Commissioner of Education to establish curriculum guidelines and instructional frameworks for school districts across New York State, ensuring that the history and civic contributions of AANHPI communities are formally and systematically taught in public schools.
This legislation represents a significant and long-overdue step toward ensuring that the richness and resilience of AANHPI communities are recognized within the fabric of public education — empowering students of all backgrounds to see themselves reflected in the histories they learn.
Voices from the Ground
The Albany visit brought together a diverse and passionate group of advocates — from student voices sharing their firsthand experiences of erasure in the classroom, to seasoned community leaders and elected officials calling for systemic change. The unified message delivered to state legislators was clear: AANHPI history is American history, and it belongs in every classroom.
Looking Ahead
KCS and the REACH Coalition remain steadfast in their commitment to seeing this bill signed into law. Additional updates, advocacy opportunities, and community actions will be announced later. Stay tuned for more.
