New York, NY — March 19, 2026 — Aging Care Together (ACT), a national coalition led by the Korean American Community Foundation (KACF), successfully hosted its inaugural webinar, “When Parents Need Care: A Conversation on Dementia for Family Caregivers,” bringing together nearly 300 participants from across the country.
The webinar created a critical and culturally responsive space for Korean American caregivers—particularly those in the "sandwich generation" balancing responsibilities for both aging parents and their own families—to engage in meaningful dialogue, access resources, and connect with trusted community organizations.
The program featured a compelling conversation between Nydia Han, anchor of 6abc Action News, and Jeannie Park, Board Chair of KACF. Drawing from her personal caregiving experience, Han offered powerful reflections that resonated deeply with participants, helping to destigmatize dementia and the caregiving challenges associated with it within the community.
The discussion was followed by a panel of experts representing leading nonprofit organizations, including Korean Community Services (KCS), Hanul Family Alliance, KCSC Greater Washington, and Somang Society. KCS President & CEO Myoungmi Kim emphasized the importance of culturally responsive care and community-driven solutions in addressing the growing needs of aging populations. Panelists shared practical guidance on navigating dementia care, accessing culturally competent services, and planning for long-term support.
Under KACF's leadership, ACT brings together established community-based organizations to develop culturally tailored resources, expand access to care, and build a coordinated referral network for Korean American families nationwide.
This inaugural webinar marks a significant step forward in elevating awareness, reducing stigma, and advancing equitable access to dementia care within immigrant and underserved communities. The program will continue on a regular basis to meet the evolving needs of community members.
