Tobacco Cessation Program
As a part of a citywide initiative to reduce tobacco use among immigrant communities in NYC, KCS provides tobacco cessation services to Korean-American smokers in NYC. New Yorkers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) have been unable to access critical tobacco cessation resources and services due to language and cultural barriers. Despite Korean-Americans having one of the highest smoking rates in NYC, cessation resources have not been widely available in Korean. As a
way to overcome this gap, KCS provides free tobacco cessation services in a linguistically and culturally-sensitive manner. More specifically, KCS provides tobacco cessation counseling in Korean and referrals to the Asian Smokers’ Quitline, the only smoking cessation-hotline in the country that provides counseling in Asian languages, including Korean. For eligible smokers, KCS provides a 2-week supply of Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in the form of patches.
