Tobacco Cessation Program
As a part of a citywide initiative to reduce tobacco use among immigrant communities in NYC, KCS provides tobacco cessation services to Korean-American smokers in NYC. New Yorkers with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) have been unable to access critical tobacco cessation resources and services due to language and cultural barriers. Despite Korean-Americans having one of the highest smoking rates in NYC, cessation resources have not been widely available in Korean.
In order to overcome this gap, KCS provides free tobacco cessation services in a linguistically and culturally-sensitive manner. More specifically, KCS provides tobacco cessation counseling in Korean and referrals to the Asian Smokers’ Quitline, the only smoking cessation-hotline in the country that provides counseling in Asian languages, including Korean.
