  Workforce Development for New York’s Asian American Community

:NYCWorks was a new workforce development initiative funded by the New York City Council
(total of $14 million) and administered by the United Way of New York City. There were 32 lead
organizations and sub contract organizations providing job preparation, job placement and job
retention services to NYC residents. KCS and 5 sub contract organizations provided 7 different job training courses and related services.

The goal of the NYCWorks program was to address underemployment or unemployment issues
associated with immigration adjustment process, to provide better training opportunities and to gain and retain employment and to create healthier families and stronger family ties by nurturing and connecting Asian American immigrant’s families.

 
 
We provided

- Outreach to Asian American jobseekers through workshops, community forums, flyers and
  brochure distribution
- Computer and Business English classes
- Workshops related to job issues; Resume Writing, interview skills, personal finance.
- Materials including uniform, textbooks
- Case management for Public Assistance
- Employment Assistance services
- Job placement for trainees
