Young Adult Service Program (YASP)


 

The 2019 YASP application will open March 25, 2019

Mission:
YASP connects Asian American young adults (High School/College students) with service learning opportunities, leadership development, and professional development by placing them at nonprofit organizations throughout New York City for summer internships. Co-hosted by The Korea Times, YASP has been able to provide Asian American youth the opportunity to serve their local community and to learn the importance of service since 2001. 

Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must be…

  1. An Asian American High School or College student enrolled in a New York City High School or College
  2. High school students must be a Sophomore or above as of Fall 2019, College students must be a Freshman or above as of Fall 2019
Timeline:
High School
Orientation July 5, 2019
Program Duration July 8, 2019 – August 23, 2019
Graduation August 24, 2019
College
Orientation May 31, 2019
Program Duration June 3, 2019 – August 16, 2019
Graduation August 17, 2019
*There will be evening and weekend workshops and cultural events that all YASP participants are expected to attend. Those dates will be announced at the program orientation.
 
2019 YASP Placement Host Sites will include:
– Fifth Avenue Committee
– Asian American Federation
– The Flushing Chamber of Commerce
– Offices of Various Elected City and State Officials
 
Expectations:
​- Successful completion of your volunteer program
​- Must volunteer at least 15-20 hours per week
– Attend orientation, workshops, and graduation ceremony
– Give feedback and complete evaluation forms
