About the Company:

Awaken Education is an educational services company serving Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Westchester, Long Island, New Jersey, and South Korea. We offer test-prep (one-on-one, small groups, and classes), subject tutoring, and college/admissions consulting to students ranging from elementary to graduate level. Founded by a former public school teacher, Awaken Education brings pedagogy into the test prep and tutoring world, in which the art of student-focused teaching and thoughtful curriculum planning is often overlooked.

We are launching test prep (SAT) and subject classes at the Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York (KCS or KCSNY). The purpose of this collaboration is to provide premium-quality test prep and writing classes to children and families who may not be able to afford it otherwise.

We are seeking a warm and organized professional with education experience to come on board as part-time Program Coordinator and Parent Liaison for this collaboration with KCSNY. Position begins in March or April.

Reports to: President (Awaken Education)

Key Relationships: The Program Coordinator will interact directly with parents and students, and communicate with the President regularly. The Program Coordinator will communicate with the KCSNY Director of Education as needed. He or she will also serve as a source of information for parents and students.

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Regular program, teacher, and student evaluation and reporting to President;
  • Engaging parents in the academic activities of the children and involvement in their academic progress;
  • Greeting students and parents to maintain an upbeat and inviting environment for students and parents;
  • Acting as a liaison between parents and Awaken Education, answering questions and concerns;
  • Provide families with information about appropriate policies/procedures, contact information, and other services, including distributing notices;
  • Maintaining student records, including mock test results, progress reports, and other academic records (including school report cards, tests, progress reports from parents);
  • Creating copies of class materials for the teachers and students;
  • Supervise students during their breaks as well as making sure classrooms are running smoothly;
  • Scheduling student appointments if needed;
  • Assisting teachers with logistical issues;
  • Providing organizational support.

Qualifications:

  • BA required in Education or related field (higher degree also welcome)
  • Available 8+ hrs/week on Friday 4-8pm and Saturday 9am-1pm (with the possibility of 2pm-4pm as well on Saturday and a few hours during the week)
  • Experience working with immigrant families
  • Experience working with Asian-American families
  • Experience working in education
  • Fluency in Korean and English required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Warm and professional demeanor
  • An ability to multitask efficiently
  • A desire to collaborate with other members of our team
  • An understanding of the importance of education and community outreach
